We’re going into a new year very soon and for many people, PR is going to be something they add to their list of things to tackle.
But when most people tell me they want to get in the media, they're not always sure as to why.
Or if they are sure, their reasons don't always make business sense.
A competitor being featured in the press is a big one that can open our eyes to what's possible.
'I have tried everything else, so I'm now ready for PR' is another.
People wait until they've exhausted the Instagram algorithm, can't face making another freebie, or LinkedIn has given them the ick, before thinking about getting in the press instead. I get it, but you're missing out by not starting PR as soon as you can.
The truth is, when you think like this, PR becomes an add-on or something that's fun or nice, but not a necessity. It becomes the first thing you drop when time gets busy or don't put all your effort into as you're worried it'll be a waste of time.
PR is actually a must-have if you want to grow your business, it really is as simple as that. Yes, it's fun and exciting but you've got to focus on (and track) the tangible benefits. Let's break down just two of these MUST HAVEs.
Must have 1: Increasing traffic
PR is a really great way to generate traffic to your website, both from google search and clicking through directly from a website. Last week, a client’s traffic was up 30% after being featured in GQ. So keep an eye on your stats.
Must have 2: getting you found on Google
So many people talk about SEO but neglect to talk about PR's role in this. Through consistent PR, one of my clients has now got themselves 364 links to their website, this has increased their domain authority and the keywords they rank for on search engines, which is a big priority for her product business.
If you get links from publications, as well as traffic, your domain authority will start increasing and with it your chance of ranking on google too. It's not an exact science, but PR links play a vital role on getting you seen on google! Those links are so valuable.
P.S A tip for if you're doing this well is to check your DA here,Domain Authority Checker – DA Checker – Check Domain Authority
Let me know what yours is!
If it's not 20 or more, then PR for this purpose is a must!

Pitch It:
The ldn news is on the hunt for fresh tales that capture the essence of London! Whether it's Lifestyle, Food & Drink, Tech, got a pitch? Drop it at marek@thelondon.news
Do It:
Don’t be afraid to cold pitch a journalist with a great story idea! It’s the last week of 8 weeks to media visible and last night we were coming up with our own story ideas and pitching them!
I know it can feel like ‘why would journalists want to hear from me? Surely they have enough story ideas!’ but I promise you it’s not the case. It’s really normal to send over a story idea of your own to the press, and it can lead to some great coverage!
We just need to make sure to spell out our WHYs!
Why now to tell this story? Why should we care about it?
Success:
